Living Here Means Being Close to What’s Next: Economic Growth in Houma, LA

Houma, Louisiana — Located in the heart of Louisiana’s Bayou Region, Houma is building toward an innovative, resilient future with strategic investments that strengthen local industry, diversify the economy, and support residents across sectors. From cutting‑edge technological development to robust recovery and infrastructure funding, these coordinated efforts are enhancing economic opportunity and community vitality throughout the region.

BrainHUB: A $100 Million Innovation Campus Anchors Tech Growth
A transformational investment is underway with the announcement of a $100 million innovation campus known as BrainHUB, being established in Terrebonne Parish through Neuro.io and its partner MindMaze AI. This will be the company’s first U.S. operations site, positioning Houma as a hub for artificial intelligence, neurotechnology and advanced manufacturing. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025 as part of a multi‑phase build‑out that extends into the next decade.

BrainHUB is expected to create more than 1,100 direct jobs in AI engineering, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing, with an estimated 1,686 additional indirect jobs throughout the Bayou Region — totaling nearly 2,800 new opportunities. The project includes an advanced manufacturing facility and a digital therapeutics training center, with future phases anticipated to expand into AI data centers, engineering clusters, and cognitive labs.

This investment showcases how innovation can be a catalyst for economic development, drawing high‑skill employment and technological leadership to the region and strengthening Houma’s competitive position in emerging industries.

Strategic Recovery and Community Projects Supported by $117 Million in Funding
In addition to new innovation initiatives, Houma and Terrebonne Parish are advancing a broad range of recovery and development projects supported by over $117 million in federal disaster recovery funding, allocated through Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG‑DR) programs following Hurricane Ida.

These funds are currently being used — and planned to be used — for a variety of community‑benefit projects, including:

  • Small Business Support and Incubation: Funding set aside to support a small business incubator in downtown Houma, encouraging entrepreneurship and local economic diversification.
  • Infrastructure and Water System Improvements: Projects such as main water line replacements and upgrades to critical evacuation routes are advancing essential services and resilience.
  • Downtown and Main Street Improvements: Planned investments along Main Street aim to enhance streetscape and public space, fostering a more vibrant urban core.
  • Environmental and Stormwater Management: Significant funding is directed toward large basin stormwater management and environmental projects that also serve as community assets and recreational spaces.

These initiatives reflect a holistic approach to recovery and long‑range planning that supports economic growth, community resilience, and quality of life for Houma residents.
